Amsterdam - Keri and Heidi Visit

Keri and Heidi Visit to Amsterdam - November 13 - 17 2025

My final guests in Amsterdam were KP (Keri Petrie) and Heidi. It was a welcome distraction from all of the logistics of moving countries. They were up for anything, so they joined me in doing some Amsterdam activities I had never done before but wanted to do before moving.

They are the perfect friends to join me in finally going to Kattencafé Kopjes - the cat cafe in Amsterdam. Due to age restrictions at the cafe, I couldn't take Sam, so I never went. But KP and Heidi met the age requirements and are also cat-obsessed.

After the cat cafe we went to Foodhallen — a big food hall that I somehow never managed to visit.

Another new experience for me was going to Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, aka Museum Our Lord in the Attic. It is a hidden Catholic church established in 1661 for the usual religious oppression reasons.

I don't really remember the point of this display, but obviously we found it hilarious and photo-worthy.

And the grand finale was going to A'DAM Lookout. Not the swing part, but we took in the views and had dinner at the fancy revolving restaurant at the top.

Morocco

For Sam's February school break we went to Morocco. We were looking for warmth and also ready to explore beyond Europe. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency (amazing resort) in Taghazout, a small fishing village that is south of Marrakesh and north of Agadir. It was a later flight with a connection through Casablanca, arriving in Agadir airport close to midnight. Sam slept on the car ride from the airport to the hotel but perked up when we found out we had been upgraded to a room with an ocean view (thanks to friend Jasper!!). Norway

Our final leg of the Scandinavia journey was Norway. We started and ended in Oslo but much of our time was spent exploring the fjords and smaller towns. One impression I have of Oslo is the social activism, not just with this small protest about fossil fuels, but the general vibe (i.e. graffiti). All very calm but lots of opinions! The Tiger statue outside the train station. Thu, 8/21 – Oslo → Bergen Not much time in Oslo before we began our exploration of Norway. This was the most stressful part of planning the trip and why I delegated it to Ryan. It involved piecing together various transportation modes and he thrives in planning trains, buses and water-related transportation. Munich

October 23–26, 2025 On our trip to Italy for fall break, we decided to fly into Ancona and in doing so, we booked a connecting flight through Munich. On the way back to Amsterdam we spent a couple days in Munich since we had not been there before. A good start to a traditional Munich experience. Ryan did not go small on the beer. Friday, October 24 Food tour!! But first our guide took us to the Glockenspiel in the New City Hall since it was due to "perform". The top half depicts a jousting tournament from the 1569 marriage of Duke WIlhelm V and the bottom half features a dance that celebrates the end of the plague.
