After a lot of heat and sun in Sardinia, we headed north to Copenhagen, Denmark to cool off. However, they were having unusual warmth for the first part of the trip so we got to enjoy wearing shorts and t-shirts a little longer.

Mon, 8/11 – Sardinia → Copenhagen
We got in very late to Copenhagen due to our usual attempt to pick the most cost-effective flights, but also to extend our time in Sardinia a little.
Tue, 8/12 - Copenhagen
First we checked out the Little Mermaid Statue, which is small and surrounded a lot of people and underwhelming as expected.
And another food tour! “Smørrebrød” is a local, kind of open-faced sandwich. I cannot really pronounce it but this may have been my favorite food takeaway from Denmark. Of course there were also Danish meatballs which did not disappoint.
Wed, 8/13 - Copenhagen
We started the day with a "Politically Incorrect" walking tour. The political incorrectness mostly involved the guide making fun of everyone's nationality which I enjoyed. For the few Americans on the tour that meant being asked "are you OK?" stemming from the current political climate in the US. 😩
Our guide was knowledgeable and funny and helped me stay engaged, even with large amounts of history. So much historical conflict between Denmark and Sweden!
We walked through the Nyhavn neighborhood, a touristy area that is often seen in photos of Copenhagen. Our guide is clearly not impressed with this neighborhood as we rushed through as quickly as possible .
In the evening we did a canal cruise. We went by many sights including Christiania ("Freetown"), a commune starting in the 1970's. GIven it was a nice day a lot of people were out on the shores and on the water. The Christiana area definitely lived up to the "freetown" reputation given there was plenty of nudity. We got an eye-full!
Thu, 8/14 – Copenhagen (Tivoli)
Our last full day in Copenhagen was reserved for Tivoli Gardens. I will speak for Sam when I say this was his favorite part of Copenhagen. Maybe jumping off the cliff in Sardinia inspired his sense of adventure since he wanted to go on all the rides.
This ride in particular was terrifying to me. It's one of those boat-shaped rides that swing back and forth, going higher and higher until you're upside down and then plunging back down. Rides with the only purpose of sudden drops are not my jam and that is an unfortunate thing to realize while being tortured on such a ride.
