Bratislava

I knew very little about Bratislava before deciding to go there except it is close to Budapest and Vienna and Kate and Jesse were going there before meeting us in Budapest.

My summary is that it is another great European city but small and completely walk-able. The Old Town Square was a mostly pedestrian area with cafes, shops and sights.

July 4:  Arrived in Bratislava.  Instant success with 2 cats that lived in the area of our Airbnb.  We did the UFO Tower for sunset.  Similar to the Ferris Wheel of Budapest, Sam was scared of the heights but then afterward was obsessed with going back. Interesting kid.

July 5: This was the first day I was really on my own with Sam since we are no longer with Kate, Jesse and Mara and Ryan was working.  I opted for heading to the Bratislava Castle. This castle has been restored so pretty fancy inside. The nice thing about Sam and I sightseeing is that we are on the same page about what we want to see and how much of the signage we want to read.  Turns out minimal of those things. We also went up the Old Town Hall for some views.

We had dinner on the top floor of the Lemontree & Skybar which was probably too fancy to bring a kid to but they gave him paper to draw on. He drew the Bratislava Castle which we had a view of from our table. 
July 6:  Boat trip to Devin Castle. This is an unrestored castle as compared to Bratislava Castle.  Why does my child now do a peace sign when taking selfies?

July 7:  Heading to Vienna by train today.

For Sam's February school break we went to Morocco.  We were looking for warmth and also ready to explore beyond Europe. Milan

  (Feb 14 - 17)  The plan for the February school break was to ski in northern Italy for a few days.  With Sam's collarbone injury (see separate blog entry ) we had to pivot.  We had already booked flights to Milan so decided to spend a weekend there.  Ryan and I had been before but not Sam.  More Milan photos here:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/J6rzoDWXCcatyKvg8 We did our typical food tour on our first day in Milan which included Roman-style pizza. Compared to Neapolitan pizza (Napoli), which we usually have in Italy, it is thinner and crispier and has a wider variety of toppings. Rotterdam

  (March 1 - 2) Rotterdam (Netherlands) was added to the travel schedule primarily because Ryan had a free Marriott night that needed to be used before it expired and we all know he won't let that go to waste ($).  It was also our last free weekend before Sam started back with his activities after his collarbone break (see separate blog entry ), mainly Sunday football.  More Rotterdam photos here:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/vA3er7NEqDfAKzzm7 We continued our commitment to food tours in every city we go to.  We had a fear that we might be the only ones on this tour and that fear was realized. That's a lot of pressure to interact with the tour guide.
